The seventeen-story high-rise on SPIEGEL Island is an icon of the 1960s. Originally built for IBM, the building is based on the designs of Hamburg architect Werner Kallmorgen, who based his design on a Hollerith punch card - the storage medium of his time - which is particularly visible in the dark when the facade is illuminated by individual windows.

The goal of the revitalization by architects Kunst + Herbert was to transfer the spirit of the original design into a contemporary working environment and building technology. In addition to restructuring and redesigning the interior spaces, the listed façade was renovated to meet the latest fire and energy protection standards, while at the same time preserving the original clarity of the building. Bicon Generalplanung was responsible for the supervision of the project.
